Details

Lowe is an uncial typeface named for the paleographer E. A. Lowe (1879–1969), whose monumental study Codices Latini Antiquiores remains the foundational work in the field. Uncial fonts are surprisingly few; among the best known are Victor Hammer’s American Uncial and Libra by S. H. De Roos. Lowe is distinguished from these by its refined, controlled letterforms — more at home in fine printing and display work than in the Celtic-revival tradition — and by two features rare in any uncial: swash alternates and a Greek character set (without diacriticals). Lowe has an understated versatility allowing it to work in display and text settings.
